WHY ARE THEY TRUSTED
HVO, or Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil, is a renewable diesel fuel that is produced from vegetable oils and animal fats. It is a drop-in replacement for traditional diesel, meaning it can be used in existing diesel engines without any modifications. HVO has several advantages over traditional diesel, including reduced greenhouse gas emissions, improved air quality, and enhanced performance in cold weather.
HVO is produced through a process called hydrotreating, where the raw material is reacted with hydrogen in the presence of a catalyst. This removes impurities and oxygen, resulting in a fuel that is chemically similar to traditional diesel. HVO has a higher cetane number than traditional diesel, which means it ignites more easily and burns more cleanly. This results in reduced emissions of particulate matter, nitrogen oxides, and hydrocarbons, which are harmful to air quality and human health.
In summary, HVO is a renewable diesel fuel that can replace traditional diesel in existing engines. It offers several environmental and performance benefits, making it a more sustainable and cleaner-burning alternative to traditional diesel.
Crown Oil provides a sustainable fuel known as HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil). Tunley has reviewed the Proof of Sustainability documents and found that the emission factor for the fuel was on average 0.0359 kgCO2e/Litre in 2023 and 0.0358 kgCO2e/Litre in 2022.
This represents a significant saving in comparison to diesel, making HVO a more environmentally friendly option for those looking to reduce their carbon footprint. The emissions saved from using HVO in comparison to diesel in a HGV and a car can be seen in the figure below.
At Crown Oil, we want to do the right thing, from being the UK’s first carbon neutral fuel supplier to running our entire fleet on Hydro-treated Vegetable Oil. We’re passionate about fuelling responsibly and are committed to implementing effective carbon-reducing solutions at every level of our business. Joining the Sustainability Showcase aligns perfectly with our goals and helps to showcase how serious we are about making tangible changes to help ensure we meet our target of Net Zero direct emissions by 2030 or sooner.
