Inspired Entertainment Case Study
Inspired Entertainment offer an expansive portfolio of content, technology, hardware and services for regulated gaming, betting, lottery, social and leisure operators across the world. They operate in 35 jurisdictions worldwide, supplying gaming systems with associated terminals and content for around 50,000 gaming machines. Inspired Entertainment had some knowledge and whereabouts when it came to sustainability, however, there were areas in which they lacked expertise, this is where they approached Tunley Environmental to assist in their sustainability journey and expand their teams knowledge on it as a whole.
Inspired were looking for a greater understanding of their baseline emissions, how they can report on it and how they can make changes and improvements going forward to better improve their emissions as a company within all Scopes 1, 2 and 3. To carry out a baseline assessment, Tunley Environmental and our Senior Scientist & Carbon Co-Lead, Dr Gareth Davies conducted a Business Carbon Assessment (BCA) for Inspired Entertainment. From the BCA, we were able to develop internal polices and procedures to drive sustainability across all aspects of their business.
The results of this assessment led to us establishing that the majority of Inspired Entertainment's emissions came from the use of sold products (Scope 3 category) emissions, meaning the electricity use of their fixed-style betting terminals had the highest source of emissions. From this finding, Inspired can look into ways to reduce the whole lifecycle carbon impact of their fixed odds betting terminals. They are planning to do this through a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) to gain a better understanding of their product, looking at all cradle-to-end-of-life emissions and through process improvement, reduce the overall emissions.
In response to us asking Josie 'What benefits have you gained from the BCA?' she mentions that "the BCA was incredibly important as it has given them the knowledge on knowing where to target and how to target it." Josie also mentions that working with Tunley Environmental she "wouldn't understand the process, the journey that we should be on and what we should be doing when."
We would like to thank Inspired Entertainment for choosing Tunley Environmental as their sustainability partner and we look forward to any future projects we work on together to improve and develop their sustainability efforts.
