Optima’s journey toward net zero began five or six years ago, but they faced uncertainty about the true environmental impact of their business and products. Aluminium’s high carbon footprint created pressure, but sustainable alternatives weren’t clear.
Tunley Environmental helped measure company-wide and product emissions, improve product performance, and educate the supply chain, and even supporting one supplier to achieve net zero. This evidence-based approach allowed Optima to make informed, credible sustainability decisions and lead their sector in low-carbon solutions.
Tunley Environmental supported Optima with comprehensive carbon measurement and lifecycle assessments across their organisation and products. This data revealed that while virgin aluminium is carbon intensive, high-recycled-content aluminium offers a significantly lower-impact alternative.
Working together, Optima secured access to 75% post-consumer recycled aluminium, dramatically reducing embodied carbon while retaining the performance and circularity benefits of aluminium.
Through our ongoing partnership, Optima has:
-
Embedded sustainability across the business, with board-level oversight
-
Reduced company and product emissions
-
Published 30+ Environmental Product Declarations
-
Invested in renewable energy, heat recovery, and cleaner transport
-
Launched take-back and reuse schemes to support circularity
-
Expanded focus beyond carbon to include biodiversity, water, and CSRD readiness

When PB Design first approached Tunley Environmental in 2022, they had no environmental expertise or systems in place on-site. With increasing pressure from customers and suppliers to demonstrate sustainability, they needed a way to measure and report their carbon emissions, set achievable goals, and integrate environmental responsibility into their business strategy.
Tunley Environmental partnered with PB Design to provide a structured sustainability framework. This included conducting both business carbon assessments and embodied carbon assessments, as well as a 12-month retainer for ongoing carbon reporting. We guided PB Design through the process of measuring emissions, interpreting results, and setting realistic sustainability targets, ensuring they had continuous support and expert advice throughout the journey.
Through our ongoing partnership, PB Design has:
- Gained a clear understanding of their carbon footprint and a roadmap for improving their environmental performance
- Create accurate ESG and carbon reports while building credibility with customers and suppliers
- Make informed decisions about sustainability initiatives.
Our support gave them confidence and clarity where they previously had none.
PB Design now receives annual ESG and business carbon assessment reports that are timely, accurate, and within budget. They have clear, actionable sustainability goals and feel supported and prioritised in their environmental journey. The collaboration has enabled them to strengthen relationships with stakeholders, enhance their market positioning, and confidently communicate their sustainability achievements.
