WHY ARE THEY TRUSTED
In 2024, Tunley Environmental carried out a carbon assessment of the NewZapp digital communications platform. The analysis followed the framework of lifecycle assessments (LCAs) and adhered to the BS EN ISO 14067:2018 standard, consistent with the International Standards on Life Cycle Analysis (ISO 14040 and ISO 14044). The assessment compared NewZapp’s platform for digital communication campaigns with the conventional approach of using A5 printed newsletters, quantifying emissions in terms of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across all lifecycle stages, including the use phase (B6).
Their case study was: A campaign of 1,371 newsletters, comparing:
Conventional Approach: A5 printed paper newsletters produced and distributed to the same volume of readers.
NewZapp Platform: Digital newsletters delivered via the NewZapp platform, enabling a digital approach to communication campaigns.
By switching to the digital platform, a carbon saving of 92.7% for individual campaigns. For organisations conducting monthly campaigns, this translates to an annual carbon footprint of 4.21 kg CO2e, compared to 57.91 kg CO2e for printed newsletters - a reduction of 92.7%.
The savings are even more significant for organisations running weekly campaigns, with NewZapp’s footprint amounting to 18.23 kg CO2e per year, compared to 250.96 kg CO2e for printed newsletters, also representing a 92.7% reduction.
The use of NewZapp enables organisations to not only reduce their carbon footprint significantly but also increase the frequency of their campaigns with minimal extra environmental impact.
