WHY ARE THEY TRUSTED

A case study was conducted to compare emissions from using the Cure-in-Place-Pipe (CIPP) and the conventional “Dig down and Repair” for a 91-meter length section of 225 mm pipe.

The CIPP practice involves removing debris in the pipe using a high-pressure water jet and inserting a PU-coated plastic liner or glass reinforced polyester (GRP) liner impregnated with a UV curable resin. The line is pulled through the pipe and inflated with air. A computer system is used to switch on the light which guides the process, the liner is moved at pre-defined speeds.

Delivering the CIPP project demonstrated a carbon reduction of 59.1% in comparison to the use of the conventional “dig down and repair” method.

The total carbon savings for 91 meters of 225 mm diameter pipe are 5.2 tCO2e this equals one of the following:

  1. Emissions from driving 18,915 miles using a diesel car,
  2. Emissions from burning 1.8 tonnes of domestic charcoal,
  3. Emissions from consuming 2,033 litres of diesel,
  4. Sequestration by 86 tree seedlings for 10 years.
