Optima Educating the Supply Chain

The Challenges

Optima’s journey toward net zero began five or six years ago, but they faced uncertainty about the true environmental impact of their business and products. Aluminium’s high carbon footprint created pressure, but sustainable alternatives weren’t clear.

Tunley Environmental started working with Optima back in 2017, helping to measure company-wide and product emissions, improve product performance, and educate the supply chain, and even supporting one supplier to achieve net zero. This evidence-based approach allowed Optima to make informed, credible sustainability decisions and lead their sector in low-carbon solutions.

Our Approach

Tunley Environmental supported Optima with comprehensive carbon measurement and lifecycle assessments across their organisation and products. This data revealed that while virgin aluminium is carbon intensive, high-recycled-content aluminium offers a significantly lower-impact alternative.

Working together, Optima secured access to 75% post-consumer recycled aluminium, dramatically reducing embodied carbon while retaining the performance and circularity benefits of aluminium.

The Impact

Through our ongoing partnership, Optima has:

The Result

Optima is now recognised as a sustainability leader in their sector, outperforming key competitors based on publicly available environmental data. Their approach is grounded in evidence, integrity, and continuous improvement.
